MEDIEVAL JOURNEY IN THE LAND OF SANTA MARIA

As I hoped, I managed to go to the Fair in the last day to see the Grand Tournament.


It was a bit difficul to buy the tickets as they were running out... but we managed to bought them! :)


While we waited to get in we saw the knights parading to get in the Grand Tournament. Before the knights came these bagpipers.


This is a helper, and he's kinda cute!


And here's the Black Knight and the Green Knight (Don Raoul).

These guys are the entertainers.


They play with the audience till the knights come in!

And we did that easily!

In the end the Black Knight won the Tournament... sadly... :s


After the Tournament the knights stood outside for us to photograph and stuff...

Friday I went during the afternoon and went with some friends.
After a nice drink in a nice spot we went to see the birds again, but this time with light enough not to be needed the flash.


I'm not sure if this is a vulture or not... (this photo was taken by Xica, one of the friends who came with me that day).

D. Raoul from Italy with the countess Beatriz went to see In taberna too. They are dating... or flirting... or whatever... kissing at least! LOL

So I went again to the Medieval Fair. This time to see the Medieval Jousts. We had to run to get there on time, cause we had some difficulties finding a place to park my car... The Medieval Jousts are organized by Legend Especialistas.


We bought the ticket...


While the knights were already entering the Medieval Jousts' place.


They were both gorgeous, I have to confess... LOL


The photos turned out too dark cause I was a bit far away and so the flash couldn't reach properly the knights... :s


But here's a proper photo of my favourite knights, D. Raoul from Italy, this photo was taken from Viagem Medieval.


And this one is a helper, a "escudeiro" (can't find the english word... sorry), last year me and my sister decided to call him Sir Lancelot! :)


And here's another helper and a clerck man. They were posing for the photos and I absolutely love the photo! :) Due to this one me and my sister started calling this long-haired helper Sir Metal. :)


At the end me and my friend (and all the other girls who wanted) had the chance to get a photo with the knights. Come on girls, just tell me if they don't look gorgeous!!! (Specially the blue one, D. Raoul!) The red one is D. Alberto from Spain.


After the jousts they returnedto their lodgement and I snapped this photo.


So we went to see the rest of the Fair. And got to the "birds' lodgment"! There were plenty of eagles, falcons and owls. I snapped this photo but soon regreted it, cause I haven't thought the flash would pop out.... but that was damn obvious as it was night and dark... poor owl... and stupid me... :s


As we were getting back to my car to return we heard some cool music. It was In Taberna, a french medieval music group.


Me and my friend, Xica, started dancing...


... as they kept playing...


They had such a huge vibe!


Everyone was dancing, including the medieval characters.


And they were playing and playing.


This guy was doing some cool stuff playing with that balls...


... while the rest of the group kept playing...


... and playing...


and playing. Plus, that guy, who played with the balls, had such a cute face... :) And a piercing! :)

This beggar is kind of traditional in the Fair.


I'm not sure if he is part of Teatro Vivarte or not...

D. Manuel I orders the expulsion of all the Moors and Jews of Portugal. They may be authorised to stay if they convert to the catholic religion in order to live freely and without fear to loose their life. It is a political-matrimonial imposition of the Catholic Kings, seeing that D. Isabel of Castela only comes to Portugal, after the expulsion of the Jews and Muslims.This measure is partially set up at a time that it is ruled the baptism of minor sons, preventing families from leaving the country. The baptismal water is imposed under orders of deportations, strokes, shoves and violence. This conversion makes new-Christians.


This theatrical display shows the Conversion of Jews.


Here you can see a Jewish old man being forced to be baptized so that he becomes a new-Christian against his will.


After the display we went to see the rest of the Fair. We found the same musicians as we did Friday, but this day they were a bit more quiet and without energy...


We found some other musicians... These ones were totally great. The music was involving, specially because they had bagpipes and I absolutely adore bagpipes! We started screaming for them as we applauded them... and so one of them came to us and played around with a friend of mine! :) It was hilarious!! "Quita las gaffas! No es medieval! Quita las gaffas!" (Remove the glasses! It's not medieval! Remove the glasses!)


Some more musicians... They were cool too, but a bit too calm for me...


And then came the drummers!! It's always a lotta fun hearing them!


Along with the drummers came the street entertainers... This group played around with fire... this girl is doing fire poi, which is damn cool!


And this boy spits fire! WOW! :)


So once again I went to the Knight's Lodgment... these guys are from Teatro Vivarte. They were fighting each other...


The photos came out with some sort of a gohst aspect because I've used the nightshot view...

Every year in Santa Maria da Feira takes place a Medieval Fair. It's a fantastic week to visit Santa Maria da Feira. It's filled with magic. I love to go there, usually go there 3 or more times a year... This year went 4 times (hoping to go another time, yet) and made some photos so you guys can see what it's like! :)


There's medieval music.


There's some parades. This one is about the Black Death.


Clercs walk around the streets praying for the people to survive the Black Death.


There's always street entertainers. This girl belongs to a group of young people who...


... play around with the fire.


Here's the girl again (this time I'm using night shot, and so this all get blurry).


And the boy, who decided to pose for me...


And here's the witches.


The clercs found more dead people and brought them...


... into the chappel...





... and to the old Lazaretto, a place out of the city's edge where infected people remained in quarantine and patients were lodged.


Witches walk around the village...


and do some witchcraft...











The doctor is producing some medicins...


I have to say that I think he's kinda cute (but he's married! LOL).


And here's the doctor with his special mask to avoid being infected by the Black Death.


And then I went to the Knights´ lodgement. This one here is "Teatro Vivarte"'s one... they are a group of portuguese people. And this thing you see here was used to crack open the castle's door.


This one is animal shapped.


Knights and some ladies rest in the lodgement.


They had a snake there and allowed people to rub the snake... I did that too.. I have to say it's disgusting... this is the possible photo... my mum did it... not that nice (since all you can see is the snake and my hand... not much)...


I found this caged skeleton!!


And then, we hear the "Toque de Encruzilhada".


All the drums are there...


and the street entertainers too. It's another magical moment.


And this guys here belongs to Teatro Vivarte. This day he was playing the beggar.
